My short shifter from Neuspeed arrived. I installed it in 30 min.
Wife had a girls lunch scheduled with her friends and she was going to be gone for a few hours.
We already walked the dogs first thing in the morning.
73 and sunny.
I opened my windows and sunroof, and too the Toad out to my favorite road.
I forgot how much fun a car can be. Abarth is so fun through the narrow two lane roads through the canyons, hearing my backfire bounce off the canyon walls. It lives for that 2-3 shift and the short shifter makes it so much more satisfying. I’m seriously contemplating dropping $400 on an intake for even more whooosh sounds.
I got in touch with my Slovakian shop, and I’ll be placing an order for black Competizione badges, black handles, and new gear knob as soon as she sends me my PayPal invoice. I hate the rough stitching on the US knob.
I had a Ford Mustang GT350 ahead of me, and hearing it in anger makes me wonder if my attainable dream car is a new BMW M2 or a used GT350. Probably the best sounding car under $100k (sorry Abarth).

Wait, Stove Prairie/Buckhorn isn’t closed at Rist due to the fire? Old Flowers Rd and west on Buckhorn towards Pennock Pass were some of my usual mtn bike routes I haven’t been able to do.
Both of those were evacuation zones so I assumed you couldn’t get up there. What’s it like up there now?

Clear skies, nothing out of ordinary. There was an optional evacuation east of Stove Prairie school, and mandatory evacuation north of Old Flowers, but right now there is only a sign at the entrance to Old Flowers Rd and I think it said “no through traffic” but I buzzed back on Rist too fast to read it.

It was so much fun. I can’t believe how much fun you can have in a crappy little euro city car with a tiny engine and 160hp.

I did have a blast! Almost felt like turning around at LaPorte and going back the same way in the other direction.

Basically the same formula for all the best cars; Miata, MG B, Austin Healey, etc. Small car, good handling , and a twisty road is some of the best fun and smiles you can get.

I was just there a few weeks ago. Took the Tundra to see how the KO2s would perform there. That area is already burned out from the last fire. It was full of new growth - 2-4ft tall pines.

Yup. A bear tearing out from those 2-4 ft pines without looking for traffic first
nearly t-boned me off
my mtn bike in July.
K02s should be fine there
. There was a couple in a minivan out there dispersed camping. No, they weren’t out to the steep parts
further west. Do you get out that far west towards Pingree to hit the more challenging hills? I assume you did since you describe the last fire and new growth.

I made it almost all the way to Pingree and turned around and did the same trail in reverse. There is nothing on Old Flowers that my Tundra can’t handle. This season might be over when it comes to old flowers so I might try it next year.
So, there are bears on Old Flowers? Maybe I need to buy a 10mm...

I don’t hunt but I’ve seen so many stories about near videos and I’m a bit nervous about them.
Yeah, Old Flowers looks like a nice bike ride. Not too steep, no crazy uphill but you are going up constantly - which is good for the ride home when your legs are like noodles.

I’ve only seen that one bear and he was running as fast as he possibly could away from us and I’ve seen one moose. M oose scare me way more than black bears.
That’s a g ood rule of thumb to plan rides that end on downhills. I take it you’ve never biked Old Flowers? There’s two big hills towards the end that I consider steep with short bits on them that hit 24% and gets hard to keep the front wheel on the ground. If you consider them ‘not too steep”, you’re a better rider than I am.
We usually turn around abefore the third big uphill to Pingree Park Rd. It’s still 3500' of climbing.
